  • EDC's Marketing Team experienced a very brisk month of activity in March. The team took trips to New Jersey, Chicago and Washington D.C. and visited a total of 18 consultants and prospects. The trip to New Jersey was particularly helpful in making contact with the biosciences community. In the wake of the Coast IRB announcement last month, EDC is working with several firms that will make new job announcements in the upcoming months, including an East Coast health services firm. The Marketing Team also received 10 new leads for the month of March, including two very large prospects, each of which could potentially bring more than 1,000 new jobs to the region.

  • Diversity continues to be an issue that surfaces in conversations with some prospective companies and local primary employers. EDC is pleased to partner with thirty-three community organizations as part of the Colorado Springs Diversity Forum. The focus of the Forum is to build on the positive work and influence of the diverse cultures that contribute to the social and business climate of the Colorado Springs community. For information on membership in the Forum go to www.cospdiversityforum.org.

  • EDC has recently published "JUST THE FACTS" a new demographic and community profile brochure, highlighting workforce, education, utilities, quality of life, business climate, and more. To obtain copies and pricing contact Kathleen Johnson at kajohnson@csedc.org or
    719-471-8183.
  • The Colorado BioScience Association has established a Colorado Springs Chapter. EDC has been working with the Colorado BioScience Association to establish a chapter of the organization in Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs currently has over 25 companies in the biotech industry in Colorado Springs, including drugs and pharmaceuticals, medical device manufacturing and laboratories and others. The first meeting was held on March 28th, and was hosted by Chancellor Pam Shockley of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. To find out more about CBSA and local chapter activities, please visit their website at http://www.cobioscience.com/.

  • New Bus Service for North-End Employers: Since late 2005, the EDC has been partnering with Mountain Metropolitan Transit to implement bus service to employers located in the north-end of Colorado Springs. This area formerly had no service, and companies in the area employ over 8,000 employees. New services are now in effect, offering front-door or near front-door service to employers such as T. Rowe Price, Progressive Insurance, T-Mobile, Lockheed Martin, Oracle and more. To view the press release, please click here. For more information on schedules and routes, please visit Mountain Metropolitan Transit's website.

  • According to Venture Capital Association, venture-backed companies outperform other firms in job creation, revenue growth and overall contribution to state economies. Between 2003 and 2005, employment at venture-backed companies grew at an annual rate of 4.1 percent, compared to just 1.3 percent for the U.S. economy as a whole. A little money has gone a long way, when you consider that the $23 billion of Venture Capital invested in 2005 only equaled 0.2 percent of GDP yet resulted in $2.1 trillion in revenues received by venture-backed U.S. companies or 16.6 percent of the 2005 U.S. gross domestic product (GDP). Go to Venture Impact at: http://www.nvca.org/pdf/NVCA_VentureCapital07.pdf.

  • Builders will see lower costs for metals, according to the Kiplinger Washington Editors. Wiring, tubing and tools are expected to see lower pricing with stainless steel costs dropping by about 30% this year.

  • The EDC Gala and Live Auction will make for a great evening for all those attending this event on May 5 at the Broadmoor International Center. Please contact Shannon Taylor for information or reservations (719) 475-6455.
  • Registrations are being taken for “Experience the Springs” scheduled for May 23 and 24. Newcomers and residents can learn more about the inner-workings of Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region during a day-and-a-half session sponsored by Leadership Pikes Peak. www.leadershippikespeak.org.
  • The Sixth Annual Mayor’s International Lunch is scheduled for June 19 at the Broadmoor International Center. Michael Fine, Consul General of Canada will be the keynote speaker. Reservations can be made at www.coloradospringschamber.org.
