Utilites Made Easy

Businesses and residents of Colorado Springs receive electric, natural gas, water and wastewater services all from one organization - Colorado Springs Utilities. The people of Colorado Springs voted to create the four-service municipal utility in 1924.

One of the benefits of being a community-owned utility is that customers have a voice in decisions. Customers and stakeholders most affected by utility projects are invited to participate on committees and at public meetings. Final decisions are debated at Utilities Board and City Council meetings held downtown.

Another benefit of community ownership is that rates are kept down by reinvesting revenues back into the operation. The net result of our efforts is reliable service at fair prices, which not only satisfies our current customers, but also attracts new ones.

Reasonable rates
Springs Utilities customers pay significantly less for natural gas, electric, water and wastewater services than residents and businesses in most large cities in the United States. Springs Utilities ranks third most affordable in residential and fourth most affordable in large commercial and industrial bills among the 16 cities that Colorado Springs most often competes with for business. Reliable service
Customers also benefit from some of the most reliable electric service in the nation. According to the most recent Salt River Project Electric Reliability Study, Springs Utilities customers were without power for an average of just 43 minutes for all of 2005. The 12 other western U.S. cities included in the survey averaged 74 minutes of outages for the year.

Excellent customer service
As a locally-owned utility, Springs Utilities works hard to understand the needs and values of our community and to provide exceptional customer service. Springs Utilities earned the second highest ranking for customer service for medium-sized utilities in the 2006 J.D. Power and Associates study. The score reflects performance in areas such as being courteous, length of time needed to answer questions, and having sufficient knowledge.
